It left a really bad taste in the mouth, and was just not worth it. After a lot of time and experimentation, creating a win/win situation worked much better in the long run, instead of just attempting to club someones free will into submission. A either/or outcome was abandoned, a both/and outcome replaced it, and with the genuine desire to see others happy added into the mix, there was no looking back.
